IGN conducted an exclusive interview with two of The Outer Worlds 2's development leads , during which they revealed improvements to the combat system in Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming RPG/FPS.
One of the main new features is the parkour system, which allows players to climb, jump and slide across locations. This will significantly expand tactical options during battles.
The enemy AI has received a major update. Now enemies use advanced tactical techniques: they actively use covers and grenades, which makes battles more dynamic and intense.
An extensive weapon upgrade system is now integrated with RPG mechanics. Weapons become effective from the first minutes of the game, and their characteristics improve based on the character's statistics and skills.
The developers have implemented three types of armor: light, medium and heavy, allowing players to choose their own style of play. It was decided to abandon the scaling of the enemy level - their characteristics remain static throughout the game.
The player's arsenal will include new gadgets: tactical time dilation and protective shields. The combat system offers a choice between ranged and close combat, while giving priority to the former.
Difficulty settings range from story mode to maximum difficulty, allowing every player to find a comfortable level of challenge.
The Outer Worlds 2 is scheduled for release this year on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. The game promises to be a worthy sequel to the original RPG, significantly expanding and improving all key mechanics.
The developers emphasize that players will be able to revisit previously explored locations with new equipment, which will add additional replayability and depth to the game.
