Publisher Konami recently revealed new details about the upcoming horror game Silent Hill f , including the inspiration for its dark setting. The game will be set in the fictional Japanese town of Ebisugaoka, which is based on the real-life town of Kanayama in Gifu Prefecture. Locals and fans of the series from the inspiration town have already noted that Kanayama already has a creepy atmosphere that is perfect for Konami's new nightmare.
Screenwriter Ryukishi07, known for Higurashi When They Cry, chose the city for its "labyrinthine streets" and historical aura, which fit seamlessly into the concept of psychological horror.
Silent Hill f, the first project in the series rated 18+ in Japan, promises to enhance traditional psychological horror with elements of Japanese culture. The release is expected on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, but the date has not yet been announced. Apparently, Kanayama is already proving that reality can be no less frightening than the game.
