The current pandemic situation has forced many organizations of all kinds to avoid the entry of the public into their closed areas so as not to generate more infections. In the case of video games, they were not going to be an exception and many companies have chosen to hold events digitally, such as the The Game Awards 2020 ceremony . Now, the next E3 2021, they have also confirmed their cancellation in physical form .
Will they do it digital?
We have known the intentions of the ESA thanks to some documents leaked ( via the VGC medium ) by editors who had received a draft from the ESA to see if they would agree to support such an event. Although nothing is sure yet, today we have learned new information that definitely pushes E3 2021 to the virtual format: according to the Los Angeles Tourism Development and Convention Commission, the association would have definitively canceled this year's face-to-face event , which it means that there would be no going back for the commitment to a virtual format.
Thanks to these documents, it is officially confirmed that E3 2021 in person is canceled and they will do so in digital format a few days and times to be specified. ESA has to finish convincing its members that a digital E3 is a good idea, something they seem to be working on .
