The latest installment in the Tenchu saga , Tenchu: Shadow Assassins, was released more than a decade ago on the PSP and Wii platforms. However, those responsible for this franchise openly admit that they would like to make a new game to publish it on PS5 , although they also recognize that it is currently "difficult for this project to come true."
The studio wants to make a new one
It was Takuma Endo, president of Acquire, who revealed this desire in a recent interview with Weekly Famitsu . In this interview they assure that the team wants to be able to work on a new installment of Tenchu, although it is "currently difficult" , and that if it is done they would like to develop it from scratch for PS5 .
The difficulty in creating a new installment could be because the rights to the game are available to FromSoftware rather than Acquire , as the studio behind the Souls games bought the rights in 2004. Therefore, Acquire would have to make a deal with FromSoftware to start the development of a new Tenchu. Title. However, the company registered a Stealth Assassins' trademark in August 2018 , which is basically the basis for such an outlook.
In addition to the desire to launch a new Tenchu, Endo revealed in the interview that Acquire is now planning to launch an indies brand with the intention of publishing "new and unique" video games in short periods of time . It would be a separate brand from the company's main label and they hope to make it public by the end of the year, although they have already shown a screenshot of the first title to be published under that label.
