Resident Evil 7 was going to have characters from The Shining or Halloween

Resident Evil 7 introduced one of the most radical changes in the series: the first person. Leaving aside that classic third-person camera in previous installments, Capcom broke with all that to provide its players with a very immersive experience, more typical of found footage horror cinema, and fully put players in a spooky house full of monsters and horrors of the sickest minds.

Although the Baker family, the owners of that house that looks like a tunnel of terror that has no end, have been postulated as an almost exact replica of what Tobe Hooper did with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in 1978 inspired by the murderer Ed Gein, what It is true that this one would have looked very different if Capcom had followed these first sketches of the character design:

All the characters, possibly with the exception of the mother, Marguerite Baker, would have looked the most different. In addition to that in turn we would also have had many more characters, such as the twins from The Shining (twins in Kubrick's movie) or like Michael Myers from HalloweenNot to mention that last aspect of I know what you did last summer that gives a bad feeling that is not normal.

It seems that Capcom, although he immersed himself in American terror by studying the most representative figures of it, wanted to give a realistic air to its monsters so that the player could better connect with the game. The ones we see in that sketch are clearly fantastic creatures with whom few would have felt true terror.
