Obviously, Cyberpunk 2077 doesn't seem to have gone through a decent QA phase and the absurd problems keep piling up. The latest to emerge is related to the 8 Megabyte weight limit for backups, on all versions (including PC).
Since some players now have a significant number of hours of playtime, and therefore items saved, crafted, etc. Their perseverance with the game has sometimes been rewarded with an error message telling them that their save data is corrupted that it cannot be loaded.
As officially confirmed to us on this page of the GOG Support Center , affected files cannot be recovered and a previous save must be loaded to continue playing. To prevent the problem from happening again, you should reduce the amount of crafting items and materials in your backpack. Players who have also used the item duplication bug may be affected.
As announced in the message, the saved weight limit may be increased in a future patch (yes, it is conditional for now), but corrupted files will remain so. The patch 1.05 , which itself improves many things, does not solve the problem anyway.
How to avoid the problem of corrupted saves
- You will have to recycle or sell hundreds of different items. To make sorting easier, you can click on the category tabs above inventory. You can also use the drop-down menu on the right to change the display order. In general, the quality index is the best option.
- Recycle or sell any unnecessary items. The benefits of automatic crafting skill recycling help a lot, as you won't be wasting your time.
- Remember to also sell or recycle your leftover grenades. There are more than ten types and they all have a different weight than the rest. You will look lighter.
- Sell food and drink, there are dozens of brands. You can keep a little to get the improvements.
- Equipment modules are probably the biggest culprit in the problem, it's possible to have hundreds of different items in inventory and they don't stack. You must classify them by quality and recycle or sell all common (white) items.
- It is possible to have dozens or even hundreds of hacking programs, so don't forget to sell them.
- It probably doesn't have a huge influence on weight, but if you hack every endpoint you can find, you'll rack up tens of thousands of pirated software components. They sell for a fortune to merchants and you don't need to have as many.
- Also, do not forget to recycle or sell the equipment, you do not need dozens of glasses, hats and shoes. Don't go hiding them in the Stash either, as that won't solve the problem.
- If you've stored tons of items in your Stash, or in the trunk of your vehicle, empty it. Keep only iconic or legendary items.
