Stellar Blade game director Kim Hyung-tae admitted that the game was not ideal in terms of narrative, citing budget constraints and a lack of developers in Korea familiar with more story-driven games.
In an interview with ThisIsGame, Kim noted that creating the story was a major challenge for Shift Up, and while the core gameplay mechanics were ready early on, he noted that the biggest bottleneck for the studio was the cutscenes.
Shift Up had to cut some of the story and world due to the high cost of creating the videos. Kim won't elaborate on what details were cut, but she admits that one of the storylines was to explain why Eve has so many different costumes that she can change into on the fly.
