Ubisoft is making changes to Assassin's Creed Shadows for the Japanese market to ensure the game complies with the local ratings system.
In the post, Ubisoft said it had to tone down the violence after images of severed heads and limbs caused censorship issues. The international version of the game will feature a toggle to turn dismemberment on and off, but the Japanese version will not have this feature. In addition, the images of the dismemberments will also be changed.
This isn't the first time Japan's CERO rating system has come under scrutiny. Last year, the release of an "uncensored" version of Stellar Blade in Japan angered an EA executive when the Dead Space remake was denied a CERO rating without making changes to its violence levels.
Assassin's Creed Shadows will be released on March 20.
