The new Steam beta already supports certain functionalities of the next generation controllers (PS5 and Xbox Series X), but the haptic vibration is still missing.
Valve has been trying for quite some time to bring the most diverse control options to the PC Gaming experience. Through its platform, Steam , users can use almost any controller on the market and find a large bundle of ready-to-use configurations and even create their own.
Beyond that, perhaps the last challenge that Valve has outlined is to continue increasing the support for the new functions that the controls of the new generation consoles have brought, especially that of the PS5 DualSense , which has haptic vibration and triggers. adaptive.
The steps of Gabe Newell's company have been slow but steady. Just a few hours ago, Steam released a beta extending support Xbox controls to add functions of the Xbox X and S Series .
These new controls do not have many differences with respect to the last generation, but they will now allow, for example, more controllers to be connected simultaneously, which will allow up to 4 controls recognized by Steam at the same time.
The Share button of this controller is also configurable from the options menu and support was even added for the paddles of the Xbox Elite Controller series. Also, traditional triggers can already vibrate on Steam with the Windows.Gaming.Input API.
On the side of the DualSense of PS5, Valve already added support to be able to deactivate the led light of the controller, something that can save us a lot of battery. Of course, all these improvements are only available in the Steam beta , but they could soon reach the general public.
