Diablo 2, the legendary hack and slash released in 2000 on PC, could soon be given a new lease of life thanks to the studio Vicarious Visions. According to revelations from our colleagues on the Bloomberg site, Vicarious Visions has been working for a few months on a remake of Diablo 2, in collaboration with Blizzard Entertainment.

We learned this Saturday, January 23, 2021 that the studio Vicarious Visions, the dads of the very good Tony Haw's Pro Skater 1 + 2 , is now owned by Blizzard Entertainment, and this after years of collaboration with Activision. According to statements from Blizzard, the studio is required to provide support on certain projects, without giving more details.

However, our colleagues from the Bloomberg site have obtained additional information about these “projects”. Thus, the Vicarious Visions teams would work on a remake of Diablo II the legendary hack and slash of the 2000s and probably the most popular title of the saga.

VICARIOUS VISIONS IN SUPPORT OF DIABLO 2 REMAKE

According to Bloomberg information, Vicarious Visions is not leading the development of the title, but is supporting Blizzard's Team 3 , which is working in parallel on Diablo IV . Originally, it was Team 1 who was in charge of making this remake, the team behind Warcraft 3: Reforged .

Only and as you may know, the game was very badly received by players and the press . The commercial and critical failure of this Warcraft 3 Reforged led Blizzard to disband Team 1. Some developers were transferred to other publisher projects, while others were unfortunately pushed towards release.

Of course, Blizzard didn't react to Bloomberg's revelations, but if that information is true, fans of the license should be served in the years to come , between the release of Diablo IV , the Diablo 2 remake , and Diablo Immortal , a mobile game announced for Android and iOS.

According to the developers, this mobile game will link Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 and the action will take place in the world of Sanctuary . Players will be asked to explore this hostile territory in order to locate the fragments of the Stone-World, both in single and multiplayer. For now, the game is in technical alpha and it is mainly reserved for Australian players.
